Additional Learning Support

 

Who we are

 

The Additional Learning Support Team (ALS) provides support to students who have a learning difficulty or disability. We work closely with colleagues across college to ensure that students receive the support appropriate to their individual requirements.

Our team consists of over 50 staff and includes:

 

  • A manager
  • Co-ordinators
  • Specialist Tutors
  • Education Support Workers (ESWs)
  • Communication Support Workers (CSWs)
  • Learning Mentors
  • Administrators

 

If you do not have a learning difficulty or disability but require support with your work, please speak to your subject teacher or Personal Tutor.

 

Who we can support

 

We can provide support for students with:

 

  • Learning Difficulties
  • Specific Learning Difficulties e.g. dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, ADHD/ADD
  • Autism/Asperger's Syndrome
  • Visual impairment and blind learners
  • Hearing loss and D/deaf students
  • Physical disabilities
  • Medical conditions that affect learning
  • Mental Health Difficulties

 

How to access support

 

You can let us know before you enrol that you may require support by:

 

  • Contacting us beforehand for a confidential discussion with a specialist member of staff
  • Ticking the relevant boxes on your application form
  • Asking for a member of ALS to attend your college enrolment interview

 

During enrolment you can:

 

  • Visit the ALS desk in the enrolment hall for a chat or to make an appointment for a later date
  • Leave your contact details with staff at the enrolment station and we will get in touch with you

 

After you enrol

 

  • If you feel that you may benefit from support, you can contact us at any time after you enrol
  • Your tutors or your Personal Tutor can send us a referral form
