Preston College, through its partnerships with local universities, has been providing higher education opportunities since 1974 to students from all walks of life, from many different cultures and varying in age from 19 to 65 and beyond.
HNDs & HNCs
HNCs consist of eight modules studied on a part-time basis over two years. HNDs consist of 12 modules and can be studied over two years on a full-time basis, or over three years on a part-time basis. As the modules studied on an HNC are identical to those studied on an HND, it is possible on some HNCs to top-up to an HND or Foundation Degree with an additional year of study.
Foundation Degrees
Foundation Degrees bring together academic and work-based learning. They are vocationally focused and designed to give students the skills and knowledge relevant to their employment and the needs of employers. They also provide for life-long learning and the opportunity to progress to other qualifications. On a Foundation Degree programme academic knowledge and understanding will reinforce and support the development of vocational skills with appropriate academic rigour. Foundation Degrees consist of 12 modules and can be studied over two years on a full-time basis or over three years on a part-time basis.
Other Options
The BSc (Hons) Science (Foundation Entry) is a full-time one year programme, which prepares students with little previous academic background for direct progression to three year science degree courses at the University of Central Lancashire. This Qualification is also recognised as an approriate Access course to many UK universities.
