Carol Warmisham collected the Tim Curtis and Partnership Award from the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) recently after being nominated by Preston College.
After working as a legal executive for 20 years, Carol decided she was ready for a change of direction and embarked upon a foundation degree in Forensic Science.
The 44-year-old, who studied part-time on the course commented: "The learning support at Preston College was fantastic - when I first started the course I was worried that I might struggle balancing my work and studies, but the enthusiasm and encouragement of the teaching staff and my fellow pupils helped me to overcome my worries and achieve the qualifications I need to be able to do my dream job.

The second year students, led by course tutor Dave Bland, have been tasked with preparing the Subaru Impreza for Garstang driver Simon Moss, who will contest the Lake District forest event on Saturday 5th December.
Dave Bland explained the thinking behind the project: "We have known each other for nearly ten years and I know there is always work to do on the car between each event.
"It seemed a great opportunity to save Simon some time whilst giving my group experience on something a bit different."
"The second years have removed the gearbox so it can be checked over and are doing the same with the specialist rally suspension which is usually rebuilt after each event.
"Simon used to teach before working for the British Rally Championship as the media officer, so he understands the need to keep students motivated."

"I'm extremely grateful for the assistance and I hope the students will enjoy the experience of working on a rally car, to a tight deadline."
The rally starts and finishes on Saturday 5th December in Coniston, more information can be found at www.grizedalestages.co.uk

The project has also seen further NEET young people progress on to programmes at the Prince's Trust, other colleges or Entry to Employment (E2E) and apprenticeship opportunities.
November sees the project celebrate its first anniversary and so far the results speak for themselves says Elev8 Manager, Chris Gunn: "The Elev8 project has worked with over 200 NEET young people from the Preston area and is still going strong. We have built up great links with other organisations and agencies such as UCLan, training providers, local schools, Lancashire County Council and the Young People's Service who help refer young people to our project."
