Preston College aims to help students achieve qualifications but also to raise their aspirations and self esteem for a positive student experience. Tutorial support is an essential element in this and all full-time students are entitled to a programme of tutorial support which meets the minimum standards set out below.
Central to this support is the role of the Personal Tutor. The Personal Tutor is responsible for providing pastoral support, monitoring a student’s progress and assisting them in their development and progression.
The Personal Tutor will provide the link between the student and the other support systems within the College e.g. Additional Learning Support, Student Services. It is accepted that a Personal Tutor can have an enormous impact upon the individual student experience and their personal development. It is for this reason that Personal Tutor will be committed to each student’s progress, performance and personal development.
Students will receive 1:1s and group tutorials to support their programme. An Individual Learning Plan will be given to every fulltime student to help learners settle in and understand College policies and procedures. The Individual Learning Plan (ILP) will also monitor learner progression / achievements throughout their stay at Preston College.
For part-time courses, the member of staff who teaches you will play this role. Some courses will have a tutorial period built in, when the student will meet the Personal Tutor as a group or individually.
