Apprenticeship in Active Leisure and Learning

Introduction

 

If you want a career in the Sports industry then this Apprenticeship is for you. The Active Leisure and Learning Apprenticeships offers a combination of qualifications, that will equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to work in a sports related industry. The opportunities in the Active Leisure and Learning Apprenticeships are very broad if you enjoy working with people, you could instruct swimming classes, lead outdoor activity trips, or help gym visitors reach their fitness goals. Apprentices in this area need to be able to communicate with a broad range of people in order to motivate and instruct them.

 

You don’t have to be excellent at sport to undertake an Apprenticeship in Active Leisure and Learning, if you’ve got a flair for management and organisation, then you could help run a leisure centre both behind the scenes and front of house.

 

Programme Levels:

 

Apprenticeship

 

  • Diploma in Instructing Exercise and Fitness Level 2
  • Certificate in Activity Leadership Level 2
  • Diploma in Coaching, Teaching and Instructing Level 2
  • Certificate in Operational Services Level 2

 

Advanced Apprenticeship


  • Diploma in Sports Development Level 3
  • Diploma in Leisure Management Level 3

 

You will also undertake Key Skills and a Technical Certificate alongside the Diploma whilst attending college on a day release basis.

 

Programme Length

 

Apprenticeship – 12 months

Advanced Apprenticeship – 12-18 months

 

Course Content

 

Selective units from programmes above:

 

  • Deal with accidents and emergencies
  • Plan and prepare a series of coaching sessions
  • Evaluate coaching sessions and develop personal coaching practice
  • Motivate and support clients to develop and maintain their fitness
  • Evaluate and develop own practice in instructing exercise and fitness
  • Give customers a positive impression of yourself and your organisation
  • Resolve customer service problems


Assessment

 

You will be assessed in one or more of the following ways:

 

  • Course Work
  • Exams
  • Oral Questioning
  • Portfolio of Evidence
  • Practical Demonstration/Assignment
  • Practical Examination
  • Written Examination

 

Career Progression

 

Once you have completed the Apprenticeship programmes you will be equipped with the necessary skills and qualifications required for working within a sports related industry leading to a variety of employment opportunities. One of the best aspects of these Apprenticeships are the range of different qualifications on offer and no matter which you pursue, you’ll benefit from having health and safety knowledge, as well as the ability to motivate all types of people.
