Introduction

 

If you want a career in the repair and servicing of electrical equipment then this Apprenticeship is for you. The Electronic and Electrical Servicing Apprenticeship offers a combination of qualifications, that will equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to work in the industry. As an electrical and electronic servicing apprentice, you’ll choose your area of specialisation: signal reception, which deals with aerial systems in residences and blocks of flats; consumer/ commercial electronics, such as TVs, audio systems and DVD players; or domestic electrical appliances like washing machines, microwaves and refrigerators. Whichever you choose, you’ll cover installation, servicing and maintenance procedures

 

To undertake this Apprenticeship, you’ll need a keen interest in technology, good analytical skills to work out what’s causing a device to fail, and practical skills to fix it.

 

Programme Levels:

 

Apprenticeship – Electronic and Electrical Services (QCF) Level 2 (EMTA)

 

Candidates can undertake one of three optional pathways:

 

  1. Signal Pathway
  2. Consumer/Commercial Electronics
  3. Domestic Appliance Servicing

 

You will also undertake Key Skills and a Technical Certificate alongside the NVQ whilst attending college on a day release basis.

 

Programme Length

 

Apprenticeship in Electronic and Electrical Services – 12 to 15 months

 

Course Content

 

Selection of units from the Electronic and Electrical Services Apprenticeship:

 

  • Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety requirements
  • Contribute to positive working relationships
  • Establishing customer requirements
  • Diagnosing faults in signal reception systems (SR)
  • Installing consumer/commercial electronic equipment in premises (CCE)
  • Diagnosing faults in domestic appliances (DAS)

 

Assessment

 

You will be assessed in one or more of the following ways:

 

  • Course Work
  • Exams
  • Oral Questioning
  • Portfolio of Evidence
  • Practical Demonstration/Assignment
  • Practical Examination
  • Written Examination

 

Careers Progression

 

Once qualified, you can continue to work in the industry, developing your practical skills and knowledge. There is also a range of career opportunities and further training you could undertake to help you progress in the industry.
