Introduction

 

If you want a career in Accounting then this Apprenticeship is for you. The Accountancy Apprenticeship offers a combination of qualifications, that will equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to work in the Accounting industry.

 

By undertaking an Apprenticeship in Accountancy, you begin the first step to a challenging and rewarding career. To be successful you must be committed and possess good literacy and numeracy skills as well as a logical approach to problem solving, including the ability to recognise the importance of attention to detail.

 

Programme Levels:

 

Apprenticeship – Certificate in Accounting Level 2 (AAT)

 

Advanced Apprenticeship - Diploma in Accounting Level 3 (AAT)

 

Higher Apprenticeship – Diploma in Accounting Level 4 (AAT)

 

You will also undertake Functional Skills alongside the Diploma whilst attending College on a day release basis.

 

Programme Length

 

12 months for each programme

 

Course Content

 

Level 2

  • Preparing and recording financial documentation
  • Maintaining and reconciling the cash book
  • Processing business transactions and extracting a trial balance
  • Maintaining the journal and control accounts
  • Providing basic cost and revenue information
  • Work effectively in accounting and finance

 

Level 3

  • Preparing final accounts for partnerships and sole traders
  • Cash management
  • Providing cost and revenue information
  • Preparing and completing VAT returns
  • Professional ethics in accounting and finance
  • Spreadsheets

 

Level 4

  • Drafting financial statements
  • Drafting budgets
  • Measuring financial performance
  • Evaluating accounting systems
  • Personal taxation


Plus an option of:

  • Business Taxation or,
  • Credit Management and Debt Control

 

Assessment

 

You will be assessed in one or more of the following ways:

 

  • Practical Demonstration/Assignment
  • Practical Examination
  • Written Examination

 

Careers Progression

 

There are a number of progression routes depending on which level you start your Apprenticeship. Qualifying as an Accounting Technician will open many doors to you. You will be able to show your employer that, along with being qualified, you have also shown commitment, dedication and professionalism. This could lead to promotion, higher rates of pay, managerial opportunities or qualify you for exemptions from the early stages of the Chartered accounting qualifications such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA and CIPFA.
