Introduction

 

This Apprenticeship covers a wide range of job roles within food manufacture, including retail and support service skills to bakers and butchers. Getting food on the shelves depends on a range of different people doing various jobs within food manufacturing. If you want a career in Food Manufacturing then this Apprenticeship is for you. The Food Manufacturing Apprenticeships offers a combination of qualifications, that will equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to work on your chosen pathway.

 

This Apprenticeship offers many options, whether you’re someone who likes to be physically on the go, or are interested in how food is made and machinery works. You’ll get to work as part of a busy team, which will involve solving problems, meeting specific targets and ensuring food safety requirements are met.

 

Programme Levels:

 

Apprenticeship – Diploma in Food Manufacturing Level 2 (Production Control Skills, Craft Bakery Skills, Meat and Poultry Processing Skills or Retail and Service Skills)

 

Advanced Apprenticeship – Diploma in Food Manufacturing (Specialist Craft Bakery, Specialist Meat and Poultry Skills or Specialist Technician Skills)

 

You will also undertake Key Skills and a Technical Certificate alongside the Diploma whilst attending college on a day release basis.

 

Programme Length

 

Apprenticeship in Food Manufacturing – 12 months

 

Advanced Apprenticeship in Food Manufacturing – 12-18 months

 

Course Content

 

Selection of units from the Food Manufacturing Apprenticeship:

 

  • Maintain workplace food safety standards in manufacture
  • Maintain the workplace and health & safety in food manufacture
  • Carry out boning in meat & poultry
  • Control stock levels in food manufacture
  • Maintain product quality in food manufacture
  • Operate an automated de-hairing or de-feathering system
  • Bake off food products for selling

 

Assessment

 

You will be assessed in one or more of the following ways:

 

  • Course Work
  • Exams
  • Oral Questioning
  • Portfolio of Evidence
  • Practical Demonstration/Assignment
  • Practical Examination
  • Written Examination

 

Careers Progression

 

The Level Two Apprenticeship will give you the opportunity to progress on to the the Level Three Advanced Apprenticeship. On successful completion of the Apprenticeship the natural progression would be a higher level course or employment, giving you a broader range and quality of skills and understanding of the industry. The prospects are good and the job is an important one – the demand for food will always be with us.
