Introduction

 

This Apprenticeship covers a wide range of job roles in the Health Care and Social Care fields. If you want a career in Health and Social Care then this Apprenticeship is for you. The Health and Social Care Apprenticeship offers a combination of qualifications, that will equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to work in the Health and Care industry.

 

Social Care is about helping people with diverse needs and ages. This type of care takes place anywhere in the community, from people in their own homes to clinics, surgeries, hostels, communal living, hospitals, rest homes and nursing homes. As an apprentice in Social Care, you could be a personal care assistant helping someone in their everyday life.

 

Programme Levels:

 

Apprenticeship – Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adult)

 

Advanced Apprenticeship – Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adult)

 

Candidates can undertake one of three optional pathways:

  1. Generic
  2. Dementia
  3. Adults with learning difficulties

 

You will also undertake Key Skills alongside the Diploma whilst attending College on a day release or evening basis.

 

Programme Length

 

Apprenticeship in Health and Social Care up to 12 months

 

Advanced Apprenticeship in Health and Social Care up to 18 months

 

Course Content

 

Selection of units from the Health and Social Care Apprenticeship:

 

  • Introduction to communication in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings
  • Introduction to personal development in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings
  • Introduction to equality and inclusion in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings
  • Introduction to duty of care in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings
  • Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
  • The role of the health and social care worker
  • Implement person centred approaches in health and social care
  • Contribute to health and safety in health and social care
  • Handle information in health and social care settings

 

Others include - doing practical duties like blood pressures, pulses, medications, wound dressing, taking blood etc.

 

Assessment

 

You will be assessed in one or more of the following ways:

 

  • Course Work
  • Exams
  • Oral Questioning
  • Portfolio of Evidence
  • Practical Demonstration/Assignment

 

Careers Progression

 

Completion of the Advanced Apprenticeship will stand you in good stead for progression onto Higher Education in subjects like nursing or midwifery and operating department practitioner roles in the care sector or management roles in Health & Social Care settings in the community.
