Introduction

 

If you want a career in the motor vehicle industry then this Apprenticeship is for you. The Motor Vehicle Apprenticeship offers a combination of qualifications, that will equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to work as a mechanic in the light or heavy vehicle industry. There is a constant demand for skilled mechanics to repair and service vehicles and continuing advancement in vehicle technology means that technicians need to have technological skills as well as good mechanical skills.

 

To undertake an Apprenticeship in Motor Vehicle, you must be committed, have a keen interest in the motor industry and have the determination and motivation to succeed.

 

Programme Levels:

 

Apprenticeship - NVQ in Motor Vehicle Level 2 Light/Heavy (Maintenance and Repair)

 

Advanced Apprenticeship – NVQ in Motor Vehicle Level 3 Light/ Heavy (Maintenance and Repair)

 

You will also undertake Key Skills and a Technical Certificate alongside the NVQ whilst attending college on a day release basis.

 

Programme Length

 

Apprenticeship in Motor Vehicle Light/Heavy (Maintenance and Repair) – 24 months

 

Advanced Apprenticeship in Motor Vehicle Light/Heavy (Maintenance and Repair) – 24 months

 

Course Content

 

Sample of units covered:

 

  • Contribute to workplace good housekeeping
  • Maintain positive working relationships
  • Ensure your own actions reduce risks to Health and Safety
  • Carry out routine vehicle maintenance
  • Remove and replace engine units and components
  • Remove and replace auxiliary electrical units and components
  • Diagnose and rectify vehicle engine and component faults

 

Assessment

 

You will be assessed in one or more of the following ways:

 

  • Course Work
  • Exams
  • Oral Questioning
  • Portfolio of Evidence
  • Practical Demonstration/Assignment
  • Practical Examination
  • Written Examination

 

Careers Progression

 

The Level Two Apprenticeship will give you the opportunity to progress on to the Level Three Advanced Apprenticeship in Motor Vehicle (Maintenance and Repair). Once qualified, you can continue to work in the industry, developing your practical skills and knowledge. There is also a range of career opportunities you could follow such as high-tech diagnostic specialist, workshop or dealership management or even opening your own business.
