Introduction

 

Retail covers a host of businesses from independent shops to national chains and large superstores. As an apprentice, your role will depend on your employer – you could be assisting customers on the sales floor of a high street store or handling their purchases. Alternatively, you could be working in a specialist department and become a product expert able to help with specific queries. The Retail Apprenticeship offers a combination of qualifications, that will equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to work in the Retail industry. To undertake an Apprenticeship in Retail, you must be committed and have the determination and motivation to succeed.

 

Programme Levels:

 

Apprenticeship - Diploma in Retail Skills Level 2

 

Advanced Apprenticeship – Diploma in Retail Operations Level 3 (Sales Professional/Management)

 

You will also undertake Key Skills and a Technical Certificate alongside the Diploma.

 

Programme Length

 

Apprenticeship in Retail Skills – 12 months

 

Advanced Apprenticeship in Retail Skills – 12 months

 

Course Content

 

Selection of units from the Retail Skills Apprenticeships:

 

  • Health and Safety
  • Stock storage and order processing
  • Preparing products for sale
  • Merchandising and selling goods
  • Customer services
  • Hygiene and goods movement
  • Organisational effectiveness

 

Assessment

 

You will be assessed in one or more of the following ways:

 

  • Course Work
  • Exams
  • Oral Questioning
  • Portfolio of Evidence
  • Practical Demonstration/Assignment
  • Practical Examination
  • Written Examination

 

Careers Progression

 

The Level Two Apprenticeship will give you the opportunity to progress on to the Level Three Advanced Apprenticeship in Retail Operations. From organising displays to learning the crucial aspects of management, the skills gained from this Apprenticeship are transferable to all retail companies. The UK’s retail sector is vibrant and offers many opportunities for early career progression.
