Introduction

 

If you want a career in the brickwork trade then this Apprenticeship is for you. The Trowel Occupations Apprenticeship offers a combination of qualifications, that will equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to work as a bricklayer in the construction industry. You will be working in a construction environment where your duties could encompass many areas of brickwork such as place and finish none specialist concrete, set out and erect masonry structures and efficient work practices.

 

To undertake an Apprenticeship in Trowel Occupations, you must be committed, have a keen interest in the building trade, in particular brickwork, and have the determination and motivation to succeed.

 

Programme Levels:

 

Apprenticeship - Diploma in Trowel Occupations NVQ Level 2 (Brickwork)

 

Advanced Apprenticeship – Diploma in Trowel Occupations NVQ Level 3 (Brickwork)

 

You will also undertake Key Skills and a Technical Certificate alongside the NVQ whilst attending college on a day release basis.

 

Programme Length

 

Apprenticeship in Trowel Occupations – 24 months

 

Advanced Apprenticeship in Trowel Occupations – 12 months

 

Course Content

 

Mandatory Units for the Wood Occupations Apprenticeship:

 

  • Adhering to health and safety regulations
  • Erecting masonry structures
  • Providing details of masonry structures
  • Setting out masonry structures
  • Saw materials and equipment
  • Brick and block-work walling
  • Construction walling details
  • Setting out basic buildings

 

Assessment

 

You will be assessed in one or more of the following ways:

 

  • Course Work
  • Exams
  • Oral Questioning
  • Portfolio of Evidence
  • Practical Demonstration/Assignment
  • Practical Examination
  • Written Examination

 

Careers Progression

 

The Level Two Apprenticeship will give you the opportunity to progress on to the Level Three Advanced Apprenticeship in Trowel Occupations. Once you have completed the Apprenticeship, as a qualified bricklayer you will be equipped with the necessary skills and qualifications required for working within the trowel industry.
