Entry Requirements

37 GCSE points including GCSE English at grade C or above.

Your Course:

An A Level in English will help to develop both your skills as a writer and your skills of analysis of written work. You will reflect on your own writing and that of others and discuss a variety of interesting literary texts. The course is ideal for those who wish to develop their literary skills and take part in discussions on writing. Areas you will study include:

  • The language of speech
  • A Shakespeare play
  • A modern novel
  • A play
  • Comparative analysis of different kinds of texts, both fiction and non-fiction
  • Poetry by different writers which are then compared

Assessment for this course is through coursework and externally set exams.

Your Enrichment

As well as the wide variety of sporting enrichment activities available to all students, there are opportunities for trips – in previous years English students have visited cities across the country to view plays of texts that were being studied.

Your Future

Many students go on to Higher Education to read English, Journalism, Law and Education. English, as an A Level, is acceptable on many degree courses.
