Entry Requirements

 

37 GCSE points including a grade C in English Language and Literature.

 

Your Course:

 

This course is designed to deepen your understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of film, the major art form of the 20th Century and a cultural form still of great significance. You will explore a wide range of films, genres and stars, developing skills of observation, critical analysis and personal reflection.

 

Units you will study include:

 

  • Analysis of film
  • British and American Film
  • Analysing the work of directors, studios and stars
  • Screenwriting and film production
  • Textiles
  • Photography

 

Assessment for this course is 50% exam and 50% coursework.

 

Your Enrichment

 

As well as the wide variety of sporting enrichment activities available to all students, there are opportunities for trips including visits to Bradford Film and Television Museum and cinema and film festivals.


Film students can also join our ‘film club’, where films from a variety of genres are viewed with opportunity for critical analysis of the film’s issues and debates.

 

Your Future

 

Most A Level Film Studies students progress to Higher Education, studying degrees such as Media studies, Cultural studies, English or Communication studies.

 

Several ex-students have gone on to become successful Film Journalists.
