Your Course:

 

An A Level in Geology is perfect for anyone interested in the landscapes around us and the environment in general. You will explore the subject through practical investigations and field work and be taught by an expert in the field who researched and lectured at the internationally renowned Remote Sensing Department at Dundee University. Units you will study include:

 

  • Rocks, minerals, fossils and plate tectonics
  • Geological hazards (volcanoes, earthquakes and landslides)
  • Geological specimens and maps
  • The Ice Age
  • Geological evolution of Britain

 

You will also undertake fieldwork in the Lake District, Pennines and Cheshire. Assessment for this course is through externally set exams and coursework.

As well as the wide variety of sporting enrichment activities available to all students there are opportunities provided for fieldwork trips.

 

Your Future

 

This course provides a range of transferable skills, valuable in a wide range of careers and study. Many students leaving the course go on to study Geology related subjects such as Earth Science and Environmental Management at university.
