37 GCSE points including a grade C in English Language and Literature.

 

Duration

 

2 Years.

 

Your Course:

 

This course is designed to develop your understanding and appreciation of specific areas of media such as the production and manufacturing of news and advertising. You will analyse social, political and economic impacts of media on British society and will plan and construct media products using a range of technology. Topics you will study include:

 

  • Key concepts
  • Media production
  • Representation and impact of digital media
  • Critical investigation
Assessment for this course is through externally set exams and coursework.

 

Your Enrichment

 

As well as the wide variety of sporting enrichment activities available to all students, there are opportunities for trips including trips to the TV sets at Granada Studios, where students can see the process of live television production. Media students also have the opportunity to write for the regional magazine ‘Barbershop’, giving them a great insight into print journalism, and work with external magazine producers.

 

Media students can also join our ‘film club’, where films from a variety of genres are viewed with opportunity for critical analysis of the film’s issues and debates.

 

Your Future

 

An A Level in Media can lead to Higher Education study in Media, Journalism, English, Film Studies, Communication studies and many more creative subjects. It can also be the first step on the road to a career in the creative industries.
