37 GCSE points including a grade C in a creative subject.

Your Course:

 

A Level Photography introduces you to a variety of experiences exploring a range of photographic media, techniques and processes, using both traditional and new technologies. digital techniques and practical skills working with various media. You will explore elements of visual language and skills to include, the formal elements, the ability to respond to an issue, concept or theme, appreciation of composition, appropriate use of the camera, the understanding of techniques related to printing and editing photographic images and where appropriate presentation and layout. You will also learn about the importance of organisation, accuracy, consistency, development and creativity. Areas of study include:

 

  • Portraiture
  • Landscape photography
  • Documentary photography
  • Photography camera skills
  • Experimental imagery
  • Photographic installation, video, television and film

 

This course is made up of 4 equally weighted units. The first year is a portfolio unit and an externally set exam. The second year is a personal study with a 2000 word written element and an externally set exam.

 

Your Enrichment

 

As well as the wide variety of sporting enrichment activities available to all students, there are opportunities for trips including department visits to Tate Liverpool and Paris. You will have the opportunity to take part in Art enrichments such as iTunes U and Vodcasting as well as additional art sessions were you can work on any project in a relaxed and supportive environment. You will have the chance to work with externally set briefs or live projects such as filmmaking, animation or magazine design.

 

Your Future

 

An A Level in Photography will support and strengthen your progression to an art foundation course or a full creative degree such as Art, Photography, Fashion Promotion, Advertising or Journalism. It also provides the creative and practical skills required to start a career in a creative role within photography agents, advertising agencies, fashion studios and media companies.
