Entry Requirements

 

37 GCSE points including Physics at grade B or above, or Additional Science at grade B or above: you will also need a grade B or above in Maths.

 

Duration:

 

2 Years.

 

Your Course:

 

An A Level in Physics is ideal for any students who had a keen interest in Science at high school. It will provide you with a firm grounding in Physics and a deeper understanding of the way the world works. Areas you will study include:

 

  • Mechanics
  • Materials
  • Waves and radiation
  • Quantum phenomena
  • Particle physics
  • Astrophysics

 

Assessment for this course is through exams and practical work.

As well as the wide variety of sporting enrichment activities available to all students, there are opportunities for trips including visits to Manchester University for a physics day and Liverpool University to attend the Institute of Physics Christmas lecture.

 

Your Future

 

A Level Physics can lead to progression at university in degree subjects such as physics, engineering, computer science and astrophysics. Career paths with A Level Physics include scientific research, optometry, engineering, medicine and dentistry. Students who have studied A Level Physics at Preston College have gone on to further study at Cambridge University and Imperial College London.
