Using Your College Email

Logging in to Email:

Click on the "Email" link at the very top of this website and the Email homepage will appear.

You will be then shown two options, one for students and one for staff, which will direct you to a login page.

STAFF

Username: First initial + Surname + @preston.ac.uk (e.g. jbloggs@preston.ac.uk)

Password: Same as network password

STUDENTS

Username: First Initial + Surname + ID Number + @students.preston.ac.uk (e.g. jbloggs123456@preston.ac.uk)

Password: Same as network password*

* Will be defaulted to ID Number. You may need to login to the college network to activate your account or activate it here

If you are a member of staff and want to use your College email account with Microsoft Outlook at home, use this guide.

Basic Settings for Outlook Express and Mobile devices for your Student Email Account

POP/IMAP settings

Username: Enter your email address for your user name (for example, jbloggs123456@students.preston.ac.uk).

Password: Enter your password

Authentication ‐ Use the same user name and password to authenticate with the incoming or outgoing (sending) e‐mail server. Don't use "Secure Password Authentication".

POP server ‐ outlook.com

IMAP server ‐ outlook.com

SMTP (outgoing) server ‐ pod51000.outlook.com

Outgoing server (SMTP) port number ‐ 587 (you will have to replace the default port number, which is set to 25)

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) for incoming POP and IMAP connections ‐ IMAP is Port 993 and POP is Port 995

Add an Exchange account

Server ‐ m.outlook.com

Username: Enter your email address for your user name (for example, jbloggs123456@students.preston.ac.uk).

Password: Enter your password.

If you get an Unable to Verify Certificate message, click Accept
