Preston College Adult Course Guide 2022

ENGINEERING Engineering courses at Preston College are housed in the impressive iSTEM Centre; a multi-million pound, purpose built facility offering a dynamic learning environment. iSTEM is home to advanced manufacturing workshops, a subsonic wind tunnel, a host of 3D printers and purpose built welding bays, designed to help you formulate ideas, test briefs and present findings. Engineering continues to be a highly sought after profession, with engineers and technicians amongst some of the most in-demand positions in the world. With current engineers identifying the skills deficit as having the biggest impact on their sector, it is estimated that the shortage of individuals with engineering and other STEM skills is costing UK businesses £1.5 billion a year in recruitment, temporary staffing, inflated salaries and additional training costs. Here at Preston College we are delighted to offer a range of courses in this highly popular subject, including the brand new Level 1 Engineering Craft Skills Certificate, a programme designed for those with little experience seeking to design and manufacture a product of choice from metal, whilst learning the basics in hand skills, tools and engineering materials. For those already experienced in the sector, we are able to offer qualifications at Level 3, as well as a host of Welding qualifications, including the Fabrication and Welding Techniques and Skills Level 3 Certificate, which could be free if you are aged over 19, live in Lancashire and don’t currently hold a full Level 3 (or higher) qualification!
