Apprenticeships in plumbing, gas and electrical are an ideal starting point for those looking to pave their way into a career within one of the biggest industries in the world. Plumbing and domestic heating technicians plan, select, install, service, commission and maintain all aspects of plumbing and heating systems. You could find yourself working inside or outside a property, so customer service skills and being tidy and respectful are important qualities, as you could often find yourself working in customers’ homes as well as on building sites Electricians install, maintain and repair electrical systems in industrial, commercial and domestic environments. You might work in both indoor and outdoor settings. Electrical equipment and systems may include switchboards, motors, cables, fuses, thermal relays, fault current protection switches, heating, lighting, air conditioning and metering equipment, as well as crime and fire alarm systems and renewable energy technologies. You will be able to work on your own proficiently and without immediate supervision in the most efficient and economical manner. Whichever pathway you choose throughout your apprenticeship, you will develop a broad range of skills to progress into employment. You will be working on a combination of practical and theoretical elements; covering essentials such as health and safety, pipework, fabrication, installation and repair as well as plumbing science and technology.
