www.preston.ac.uk 14 ” “ TOM STUDYING T-Level in Engineering (Design & Development) INDUSTRY PLACEMENT EMPLOYER Air Filtration Solutions Limited Air Filtration Solutions (AFS) Limited approached Preston College looking for a student to undertake a T-Level industry placement with them. Industry placements of 315 hours are integral to T-Levels and allow students and employers to connect on longer term projects that would not be possible on standard work experience placements. To make sure that AFS found the right student the College invited AFS to challenge our learners with a design project. After a project briefing from AFS our learners got to work on developing their ideas and response to the brief. A few weeks later the students presented their work to AFS and after follow up discussions, Tom was chosen to undertake the placement. Since Tom started at AFS he’s gone from strength to strength and become a T-Level ambassador for the Department for Education. Tom says: My confidence has grown since I started my industry placement at AFS. I’m working on designs using CAD and learning how to use different machines like laser cutters and 3D printers. I have developed greater subject knowledge and I can transfer this from college to work and from work to college. The T-Level has benefited me so much, I get the in-depth knowledge and the experience in the workplace which means I’m going to have the edge over someone else who has studied a BTEC or A-Levels.
