FOUNDATION DEGREE IN PERSON CENTRED COUNSELLING & PSYCHOTHERAPY Awarded by University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) THIS DEGREE: This qualification has been designed to allow you to enhance the critical, analytical and reflective skills needed to undertake successful professional practice. Enabling you to work confidently as a counselling professional, sensitively incorporating counselling skills into all areas of work, whilst responding to the constantly changing context within which counselling and psychotherapy practice sits, the course also develops opportunities and a deeper understanding of the importance of reflective practice. As the degree progresses you will explore the principles and theories of clinical person-centred counselling and psychotherapy practice and how those principles have developed, alongside an ability to evaluate and interpret these, and understand the appropriateness of different approaches to client situations within clinical practice. Critical evaluation skills will also be required and fostered, alongside an understanding of the purpose of clinical supervision and professional boundaries within training and practice. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Preston College operates a flexible admissions policy, welcoming applicants with a wide range of qualifications and/or experience, with each application assessed on its own merit. We also recognise prior learning/attainment (RPL) and experience, meaning it may be possible to map some of your existing qualifications against the modules for the FdA Person Centred Counselling and Psychotherapy qualification. If this applies to you, we will discuss this with you at the interview stage. For students who have recently been in education, we would expect an applicant to have the following: WHAT WILL I STUDY? You will study 120 credits per year as you explore a range of modules, including: Year 1: > Introduction to Clinical Practice > Introduction to Self-Awareness > Theoretical Concepts of Person-Centred Therapy > Academic Skills for Counsellors > Professional and Ethical Practice Level 3: A Level 3 qualification in Counselling is required GCSE and other qualifications: Due to the academic demands of the programme, it is recommended that you hold a minimum of GCSE grade 4 (formerly grade C) or equivalent in English Language Applicants without an English qualification should study a Level 2 qualification alongside the FdA programme in preparation for progression onto the BSc (Hons) Top-up degree IELTS 6.0 (5.5 in each skills area) Admissions process: All applicants must complete an application form, participate in a group interview and have an enhanced DBS check 24
