32 New York In February, 42 of our dance learners visited New York! For five days learners got to experience dance workshops with Broadway professionals from ‘Step by Step’, attended the ‘Chicago’ workshop with an experienced musical director and member of the current cast, had a tour around the New York City ballet where they were able to watch part of the rehearsal, and watched the ‘Moulin Rouge’ and ‘Chicago’ musicals. In addition, learners visited the Statue of Liberty and the 9/11 memorial, ate at the Hard Rock Café and Bubba Gump, and took a trip to the tallest building in the western hemisphere - the One World Trade Centre. Liverpool Learners from our Level 3 Travel and Tourism course at Preston College visited the infamous Titanic Hotel in Liverpool to support their projects in Customer Service in Events and Hospitality. The hotel provided a guest talk and tour, allowing learners to experience the full set-up of specific event areas and function rooms to see how different departments operate. Helen Millington, Programme Team Leader of Leisure and Service Industries says, “The learners were overwhelmed by the hospitality received at the Titanic Hotel as managers and staff took time to educate and tour our learners around the infamous hotel. The staff answered questions linked to assessment criteria, as well as escorting them around their huge function areas and hotel suits. Seeing it for real really helps the assessments come to life, and we couldn’t be more grateful to them for this opportunity.” London MOVE IT - the world’s biggest Dance & Performing Arts event happened in March and we were proud to be part of it! 88 dancers and performers descended on London for this week-long event and showcased the most incredible dances that they had been working on. Manchester Earlier in March, the Preston College Creative Arts department took 85 learners from our Art, Games, Film and Foundation courses on a trip to Manchester city centre. Learners visited Afflecks Manchester and Manchester Museum to gather primary research for their final major project, themed, ‘Regeneration’ We are already looking forward to seeing the final pieces of work which will be showcased at both our ‘Oscars’ awards evening and our End of Year Show in June! Portugal Our Level 3 Sport learners (boys and girls football teams) took a trip to Portugal! The boys competed against a Portuguese opposition Ad Almada beating them 2-1. All participants who attended the trip acted as great support for each other; creating a brilliant atmosphere for all. Learners also took part in tennis, basketball and volleyball and also enjoyed a Benfica stadium tour. Around The World We are fortunate to be able to offer our learners with on-programme extra curricula activities and trips that enrich their learning experience at the College. Over the past few months our learners have been on numerous trips, including a stateside trip to New York and an all-encompassing sporting visit to Portugal. We would like to thank all of our staff and hosts who have played a huge part in facilitating and supporting these trips – they are hugely invaluable to our learners.
