Preston’s College student Daniel Miller has slam dunked himself a basketball scholarship in the USA.
The 19-year-old, who plays for the College’s Basketball Academy – Preston Titans, has received a two-year scholarship offer from the Ancilla College Chargers.
This came after Preston’s College basketball coach Malcolm Leak referred Daniel, who has had a great season with the Titans, to the Chargers’ head coach Aaron Butcher.
Daniel will study Business Management and Secondary School Studies during his time with the Indiana based College before hoping to one day play professional basketball in the NBA or Europe.
Asked where he sees himself in 10 years’ time, Daniel said: “Hopefully, I see myself playing at a high level, ideally in the NBA but Europe would be great too.
“Ideally I would like to one day be earning enough money to support my parents and family in a league which challenges me day-in, day-out.”
Asked why he chose Preston’s College, and about how the Preston Titans has developed his game, Daniel added: “Moving to the Basketball academy with Coach Leak has helped my game in many ways, particularly my outside shooting, man-to-man defence and shooting off dribble.
“The main reason I chose Preston’s College was for the basketball academy because it has a great reputation across the country.
“The coach told me that the team would help me progress my game onto the next level and that’s exactly what it has done.”
Daniel is now awaiting his exam results in seven days’ time, after sitting entrance SATs with Ancilla College. Should everything go to plan, Daniel will join up with the Chargers in mid-August.
