DRESSMAKING

Duration: 10 Weeks
Last Updated: 03-01-20

During this dressmaking workshop you will learn new skills and techniques in sewing. If you have tried sewing at home and found that the garment hasn’t turned out quite as you thought then this is an ideal course for you. Our students often say that they have learnt how to do things ‘properly’ on this course. A pattern will be specially chosen by your tutor, to enable you to learn and practice different sewing techniques and also to learn how to follow the written instructions and diagrams which are included with the pattern.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

You will learn all the steps required to create a garment covering: Laying, cutting out, marking, basting, fitting, setting up & operating domestic sewing machines and overlockers, pressing, finishing.

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

There are group demonstrations along with independent practice and supported by one to one guidance when required. The sessions are informal and designed to help students share knowledge and ideas.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

On an informal basis throughout the course. There are no exams.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

This course provides you with the skills and techniques to progress onto a more advanced dressmaking/textiles course. It also enables you to plan and carry out personal projects in your own time.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?

You will need to purchase a pre-arranged pattern and also bring a sewing kit to sessions. This information, in detail, will be sent to you prior to the course commencing. Sewing machines and overlockers are provided by the College.
