This course is designed for people who want to develop a career in the childcare or young people’s services sector. This sector has a wide range of job roles including childminder, youth worker, early years educator and nursery practitioner. You will need to be working or volunteering in a suitable childcare setting as you be assessed in the workplace.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
The course is made up of 13 mandatory units and two optional units. Subjects covered include health and safety, child development, duty of care, involving parents, supporting all areas of development and promoting the well-being and resilience of children and young people.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
Assessment will be through a range of methods including essays, case studies and presentations. This is a work-based qualification and you will be assessed working with children.
WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?
Successful completion of this course will provide you with the national qualification required to work with children in a range of childcare settings. Once employed in a childcare setting you may apply to study towards the Early Years Educator Level 3 Diploma. The qualification is relevant to the following careers:

You will need GCSE (or equivalent) in English and maths at grade C (4) or above, a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check and a suitable work placement. Your work placement should be six hours per week in a suitable childcare setting and should be secured prior to the start of the course.
