INTRODUCTION TO TEACHING ENGLISH TO SPEAKERS OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES

This is a short introductory course for those thinking about undertaking the Level 5 Certificate in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Foreign Languages). This five week course covers some basics of the Level 5 Certificate without needing to commit to the full course and will help you decide if teaching English as a foreign language is for you. If you decide it is and would like to progress to study the full Level 5 Certificate you will need to complete an application form.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Topics include understanding the learners and their cultural and language backgrounds, lesson planning and theory, language games and activities, as well as teaching pronunciation and vocabulary. You will also cover some basics about grammar and phonology.

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

You will be taught in a classroom with others from a wide range of backgrounds. There is a heavy emphasis on group participation. 

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

There are no exams, however you will be expected to participate in group activities, complete small tasks and document your reflections on your learning. 

HOW MUCH WILL THIS COURSE COST?

The cost if the course is £100, which will be deducted from the fees for the full Level 5 Certificate TESOL if you accepted on to the programme.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

You can progress to the Level 5 Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Foreign Languages. You must meet the entry requirements and complete an application form to progress to the Level 5 Certificate. For more information please see the course information page for TESOL here.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

All applicants must demonstrate both spoken and written Functional Skills Level 1 in English or equivalent
