The Construction industry has a range of trades that you can develop into a successful career. At Preston College we are offering the following Level 1 courses to get your career off to a great start. These courses are designed to develop your skills in the trade area and prepare you for progression to a Level 2 course at college or employment in the industry as an Apprentice. Choose from: 

  • Site Carpentry Level 1
  • Wall & Floor Tiling Level 1
  • Brickwork Level 1
  • Multi Skills Level 1

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

You will learn the importance of safe working practices, effectively communicating with others and you will learn about up to date and relevant industry techniques, materials and equipment. You will be able to develop your hand skills by learning how to safely use the various tools, techniques and methods a tradesman would use within the workplace. At the end of the Level 1 course you will have achieved the following:

  • Level 1 Award in Health & Safety
  • CSCS Test / Approval & Card
  • Level 1 Certificate in a relevant technical area
  • Guaranteed industry placement (Subject to attendance levels being 95% and above)

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

The majority of the programme is dedicated to practical activities, however, there is also classroom based work on health and safety, building methods and construction technology.

  • In Class Tests
  • Practical Demonstrations
  • Multiple Choice Tests

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

Progression to a Level 2 Construction course or to a Level 2 Apprenticeship in a trade area.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?

All PPE will be provided to undertake the course. Your learning will take place in the outside learning site which is designed to prepare you for working in the construction industry.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

At Level 1 you’ll need a profile of mainly grade 2 (Es) at GCSE including English Language and maths. You must also show an interest in the subject. Learners who have no formal qualifications will be required to attend a transition interview.
