This course builds on your knowledge developed at Level 1 and 2 with the inclusion of diagnosing complex system faults and advanced systems operation. You will study both theory and practical aspects covering the technical information you need to work in the industry. Through a range of projects you will develop the essential knowledge that service technicians need to work on light vehicles (cars and vans) in all types of garages, dealerships and maintenance workshops.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Diagnosis and Rectification of:

  • Engine & Transmission
  • Component Faults
  • Chassis System Faults
  • Auxiliary Electrical Equipment Faults
  • Health and Safety.

You will also develop Customer Service Skills which are essential for working in a modern workshop environment.

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

You will be taught in the automotive workshop by experienced tutors working on real cars with industry standard equipment.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

Your assessment is a combination of projects, practical tasks in the workshops, assignments and online multiple choice test. Your progress will be monitored and mapped to assessment criteria throughout the year.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

On successful completion of this course you can progress to a relevant Level 3 or 4 programme or an Apprenticeship. You will be required to meet the entry criteria and attend a progression interview, where your performance on this course will be reviewed and taken into consideration.

Alternatively you may seek employment in the industry as a:

  • Motor Vehicle Service Technician
  • Technician
  • Master Technician
  • MOT Tester.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?

For workshop activities you will need to purchase suitable overalls and work boots.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You will need a Level 2 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (Light Vehicle) and a successful interview. If you do not meet the entry criteria please speak to an advisor as equivalent industry experience will be considered.
