If you want to pursue a career in the IT sector and apply your knowledge and skills in real-life industry situations, this motivating and engaging course will put you on the right path. It covers a wide range of topics for those who have a specific career pathway in IT already mapped out, as well as those who are not sure which specialism to follow. This course is practical with plenty of opportunities to implement the theory that you learn. Reflecting the needs of the rapidly advancing and growing digital world, this course will give you the toolkit you need to find employment in an IT environment or to go on to higher education!

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

There are 6 Units covered in Year 1:

  • Creating Systems to Manage Information
  • Social Media
  • Programming
  • Data Modelling
  • Website Development

In the second year there are a further 7 units to complete:

  • Cyber Security
  • IT Service Delivery
  • IT Project Management
  • IT Technical Support
  • Animation
  • 2D & 3D Graphics
  • Enterprise

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

Assessment will be by assignments, presentations, observation of practical work and written reports. There will also be externally assessed units which will be a mixture of timed exams and timed set tasks depending on the units. Exam access arrangements are available for all students who need support through the formal exam process so everybody has an equal chance to achieve the grade they are capable of.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

We realise students wish to progress from college in different ways so we aim to prepare students for both employment in an IT role or a University course. Our students progress to Universities where they study a wide variety of degrees including Cyber security, Ethical Hacking, Cyber Forensics, Computer Science, Games Programming and Networking.

For those students not wishing to progress to university, comprehensive support is provided to help them find alternatives such as employment or apprenticeships. There are a vast number of opportunities available to you after your college course. These roles include:

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You need five GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade 9-4 (A*-C) including either English Language or maths with a minimum grade 3 (D) for the other subject. You’ll also need to attend an interview to discuss your interest in the course and complete a Level 2 IT assessment.
