Beauty Therapists have a lot of opportunities and enjoy making people look and feel great. As a Beauty Therapist you'll meet a wide variety of people and can work in a number of different environments including salons, spas, health and leisure organisations and cruise ships.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Units of study: Health and safety; Waxing; Preparing for treatments; Manicure and pedicure; Prepare and maintain salon areas; Client consultation; Facials; Make-up; and Lash & Brow treatments.

Additional unit: Spray Tanning. 

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

You will be taught by experienced staff who know what you need to be a successful beauty therapist. You will develop your skills and knowledge in both theory and practical sessions. In theory sessions you will learn the background information to build your confidence and knowledge. In practical sessions you will work with clients to develop your skills. Some modules may be delivered online remotely.

HOW MUCH WILL THIS COURSE COST?

There are a number of competitions to enter which can really add to your CV. You will need a uniform (approximately £50) and a beauty therapy kit (approximately £120). You will be expected to provide some of your own clients for assessments and complete tasks to commercial time scales.

NB: This course involves using chemicals, liquids and aerosols which could be harmful to your health if you have a predisposition to certain skin conditions or allergies, such as occupational dermatitis, eczema or asthma.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

You can progress to the Level 3 Beauty Therapy or expand your skill base by completing the Level 2 Hairdressing course. Alternatively you may seek employment as a Level 3 Apprentice in Beauty Therapy.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?

Bursary applications can be made to help you with the cost of the kit and your uniform. You will be expected to provide some of your own clients for assessments and complete tasks to commercial time scales.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You need four GCSEs at grade 3 (D) or above including English Language and maths. You will also need good people, communication and dexterity skills as well as the desire to work with the general public in a professional manner.
