This one year course is designed to give you a solid grounding for a career in the Travel and Tourism industry. You will research and learn about worldwide destinations, events and attractions while exploring the career opportunities available in a range of different organisations. You will also have the opportunity to plan and arrange your own class visits to enhance your experience and develop your research skills.

We offer an excellent enrichment programme to enhance personal, social development, team work and subject knowledge. Enrichment includes numerous subject related activities, additional courses and trips. Previous trips include a London residential, trips to Alton Towers, Beacon Fell, Manchester Airport, Manchester City Centre and Chester Zoo.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Our students enjoy topics including cabin crew safety, resort welcome meetings, customer service and designing advertising for tourism holidays. You will learn about the airline and cruise sector, how to plan holidays and trips for different types of customers and research current (and future) popular destinations of the world. You will also get to take part in work based projects, visits and residential trips to develop your experiences and improve your interview, presentation and communication skills.

Units of Study include: Worldwide destinations; Customer service and interpersonal skills; Resort representatives; Travel planning; Planning events; and Foreign exchange.

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

You will be taught in the classroom using creative and innovative learning techniques involving group work, presentations and interactive tasks. Some modules may be delivered online remotely.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

You can progress to the Level 3 in Travel & Tourism or the Event Management course. Alternatively you may consider employment as a Customer Service Apprentice with a focus on the travel and tourism industry. This course is relevant to the following careers: air cabin crew, travel consultant, holiday representative, travel service agent, event planning and visitor attractions.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?

Extensive work experience is part of the programme, you will be supported by the Careers team.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You need four GCSEs at grade 3 (D) or above including English Language and Maths. You’ll also need to be willing to participate in practical activities and volunteering to enhance your customer service skills.
