TRAVEL & TOURISM - LEVEL 3

You will research and learn about worldwide destinations, events and attractions while exploring career opportunities available in a range of different travel and tourism organisations. The course covers various topics including cabin crew safety, resort welcome meetings, resort management operations, customer service and designing advertising for tourism holidays. In the second year you are expected to plan and organise your own 70 hour work experience placement.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Units of Study include: Overseas representatives and resort operations; Adventure tourism; Planning and delivering guided tours; Marketing and promotion of travel and tourism; Events, conferences and exhibitions; Supervising customer service; and Management in travel and tourism.

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

Practical assessments and demonstrations, group and individual work. You will complete research activities and collect information from day visits and guest speakers. Some modules may be delivered online remotely.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

Successful completion of Level 3 allows progression to university level courses in Tourism, International Tourism, Events, Hospitality, Airline & Airport, Cruise Industry, Food Tourism, Heritage and Nature Tourism. Alternatively you may seek employment, opportunities include: Air Cabin Crew, Travel Consultant, Holiday Representative, Air, Rail and Sea Passenger Service Agent and visitor attractions.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?

You can access numerous subject related activities, additional courses and trips to enhance your personal, social development, team work and subject knowledge. Previous trips include a London residential, trips to Alton Towers, Beacon Fell, Manchester Airport, Manchester City Centre and Chester Zoo.

Duration: This is a 2 year course. 

Work experience will be completed in both years of study, with an emphasis in the second year. 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You need five GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade 9-4 (A*-C) including English Language or Maths at grade 4 with a minimum grade 3 for the other subject. You’ll also need to be willing to participate in practical activities such as workplace activities, study visits and volunteering.
