Focused on developing your practical skills, this programme is designed to prepare you for entry into the industry. The majority of the programme is dedicated to practical activities in your chosen craft. There is also classroom based work on health and safety, building methods and construction technology.

What will I learn?

Units of study:

  • Safe working practices within construction
  • Information, quantities and communication
  • Building methods and technology
  • Developing practical skills
  • Maintenance and use of hand tools
  • Prepare and use portable powered tools

There are additional units relevant to your chosen craft.

How will I be taught?

This course is mainly practical where you will be based in the workshop, however there are also theoretical units where you will be based in the classroom.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed in the following ways:

  • Practical assessment
  • Multiple choice test
  • Theory assessment
  • Portfolio of evidence

What can I do next?

On successful completion you can progress to a relevant Level 2 programme.

Is there anything else I need to know?

We recommend that you provide your own Safety footwear and appropriate clothing.

Entry Requirements

You must show an interest in the subject. It is essential that individuals have an adequate level of English to understand the information delivered by the tutor.
