CENWAT is designed to assess the competence of a gas engineer to install, exchange, commission, disconnect, service, carry out repair and attend to breakdown of appliances. However, as with all ACS assessments CENWAT will only assess an engineer’s competence in matters of gas safety, it will not assess other associated key skills such as plumbing or the electrical installation etc.

A re-assessment for CENWAT, which is required every five years, is also available at a reduced cost.

What will I learn?

A typical practical CENWAT assessment for an engineer carrying this out for the first time will include:

  • Completing the installation and commissioning of a gas boiler
  • Identifying gas safety components
  • Installation faults and servicing in accordance with the manufactures instructions
  • Operational and performance check of an instantaneous water heater, including temperature rise and flow rate.

Training is available at an extra cost should you need it prior to undertaking the assessment.

How will I be taught?

You will be taught by experienced and supportive tutors.

How will I be assessed?

Candidates will complete a series of written and practical assessments.

What can I do next?

Candidates may consider looking to add appliances such as (CKR1) Cookers, (MET1) Meters or (HTR1) Fire and Wall Heaters

Is there anything else I need to know?

Our gas programmes can be delivered throughout the year. You are advised to get in touch to discuss how your individual assessment and training package can be put together.

Entry Requirements

To undertake the above element the candidate will need to hold a current CCN1 certificate. Candidates undertaking any of the above elements for the first time would complete such assessments as initial assessments. Candidates renewing their elements would undertake as re-assessments as long as their previous elements have not lapsed by more than 12 months, in which case the candidate would need to complete an INITIAL assessment.

If the start date for your course has already passed we may still be able to accommodate you.
