The City Deal of Preston and South Ribble is critical to economic development and a key driver for the delivery of skills and training in Construction. There is currently a shortage of skilled construction workers, as such Preston’s College is working in partnership with a reputable house builder, to recruit employees for their upcoming building projects.

What will I learn?

You will gain an understanding of the installation of complex masonry systems and will develop your basic civil engineering skills. The programme will also include;

  • Induction and intensive health and safety CSCS training
  • Occupational trade assessment
  • Knowledge of the Construction industry and occupational pathways available
  • Practical occupational skills development ensuring work readiness
  • Employability skills and interview preparation
  • Guaranteed interview with an employer and referral to recruitment partners

How will I be taught?

This course is delivered in our Construction Centre which has been developed with the Eric Wright Learning Foundation to replicate a real construction site, so you gain a real insight into the industry. There is a mixture of practical and theory based activities on this course.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through practical assessments and a portfolio of work.

Is there anything else I need to know?

The course last for four weeks and starts on Monday 24th June until Friday 19th July. You are expected to attend every week day from 9.15am till 3pm. 


During the practical aspect of the programme you will be required to wear personal protective equipment. This will be provided for you and will include hard hat, hi-vis vest, safety gloves, boots and glasses. 

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However, you should have a basic level of English, a keen interest in the subject and motivation to start a career in construction. Please speak with your Job Centre Advisor or contact Preston’s College on 01772 22 55 22.
