This course is designed for those who wish to improve their knowledge of the history of art. Learners may wish to simply extend their cultural knowledge of the subject whilst others may wish to travel and see works of art in the places they visit.

What will I learn?

The course will commence with a general introduction to art from all periods, from the earliest civilisations to the present day. It will then focus on different special periods each week, for example, seventeenth century sculptures or paintings by Rembrandt in Holland.

How will I be taught?

Each class will be fully illustrated with slides and will have a different focus each term.

How will I be assessed?

There is no formal assessment however progress will be monitored each week.

What can I do next?

Once you have completed this course you will be able to use your new knowledge when visiting galleries around the world.

Is there anything else I need to know?

Handouts will be issued for each class, however learners may wish to bring paper and a pen to take their own notes for future reference.
