Financial Support Applications

Bursary Funding

The College has access to a number of Bursary funds aimed at supporting learners with specific financial difficulties which may prevent them from taking part in learning.  Eligibility for the funds will be based on household income, and recent evidence of this must be submitted with your application. Vulnerable Bursary (16-18 Years Only)

Learners from the following categories are entitled to this bursary:

  • In Care
  • A Care Leaver
  • in receipt of Income Support/Universal Credit
  • in receipt of Employment Support Allowance AND Disability Living Allowance/Personal Independence Payment.

16-18 Discretionary Learning Support Fund

Provides financial help towards the cost of equipment, kit (uniform), travel and luncheon vouchers. Please note that due to a cut in funding we have had to made some necessary changes to the entitlement for those learners in the higher income bracket. The details are in the table below. Please see a Welfare Officer in Student Services if you have any exceptional circumstances which are affected by these changes.

16-19 Childcare

Funded through the governments Care to Learn scheme, with a maximum weekly threshold of £160 per child. See www.gov.uk/care-to-learn for more details

19+ Discretionary Learner Support Fund Bursary

Financial help towards the cost of books, equipment, kit (uniform), travel and childcare for all funded FE adult learners.

20+ Childcare

This fund can help to subsidise childcare costs for eligible learners.  The maximum childcare cost fundable is £175 per child per week. All childcare providers must be Ofsted registered.  Learners must complete a full Bursary application (online), along with a Childcare Subsidy Form (available from Student Services) to apply.

Advanced Loans Bursary Fund

Students can apply for help towards travel, equipment and childcare costs, if in receipt of an Advanced Learning Loan.

External Grants and Funding

The College engages with a number of external charities and trusts in sourcing financial and other support for students who meet specific eligibility criteria. Support from the likes of the Pinecone Trust, Shepherds Street Trust, United Utilities Trust Fund and the Helena Kennedy Foundation has been well received by students.
