List of duties for Dental NurseRESPONSIBLE FOR ALL INFECTION CONTROL
Sterilising and decontamination of all instruments
Cleaning and disinfecting all surgery work surfaces
Sterilising and decontamination of all rubber and alginate impressions
Ensuring that there is no cross infection at any point
The weekly cleaning and disinfecting of autoclave and any other disinfecting devices
The daily disinfecting of suction units
The daily cleaning of dental chairs and units
ASSISTING DENTIST IN SURGERY
Assisting the dentist in the surgery with all dental procedures
Setting out of all instruments required
Correct and precise charting of all patients’ records these must be kept up to date.
The mixing of dental materials that are required by the dentist
To bring and escort all patients into and from surgery during treatment period
To monitor and reassure all patients and to ensure a clear path of communication, i.e. check medical history, recent radiographs should be made available and hospital letters should be read prior to patient being seen
To complete all laboratory sheets pertaining to each patient and to ensure any changes or correction in treatments be written down
To complete all x-ray envelopes and ensure all radiographs are monitored
Assisting hygienist and Therapist as and when required.
NON-SURGERY DUTIES
Ensure all stocks are kept up to date and are replenished regularly, this should be carried out on a weekly basis
Ensure that there are enough laboratory tickets, x-ray envelopes for that month
Check with receptionist of any patients who are attending who have special needs, i.e. someone with a latex allergy.
Ensure all records are completed correctly and are kept up to date, i.e. autoclave monitoring book and TST STRIPS and any other logbooks associated with the current legislations
. OCCASIONALLY THERE WILL BE CROSS OVER DUTIES WHICH WILL INCLUDE CLERICAL DUTIES ON RECEPTION.
