A manufacturing engineer will interpret, breakdown and process engineering drawings and specifications to enable the manufacturing team to build the products our clients have asked for.

They will also provide engineering support to other teams throughout the business e.g. engineering design, projects, purchasing, production and quality departments.

As an apprentice you will be given relevant off the job training and on the job training necessary to develop you into a competent Manufacturing Engineer.

DUTIES

As an apprentice you will undertaking training to enable you to:

Interpret, breakdown and process engineering drawings and specifications to enable the manufacture of products in accordance with NIS procedures.

 

Provide engineering support to other teams in the organisation e.g. engineering design, projects, purchasing, production and quality departments.

 

While training, at a very basic level you will taught how to :

  • Understand and interpret engineering drawings
  • Generate Master Control Schedules for material procurement
  • Identify optimum manufacturing methodology
  • Extraction of all relevant information from client documentation, specifications, quality plans.
  • Produce detailed manufacturing route cards
  • Identify in-house/subcontract activities
  • Generate specifications for subcontracts
  • Generate supplementary manufacturing sketches
  • Problem solving

REQUIRED SKILLS

Computer literate

Good numeracy skills as there is a need to work with figures e.g.  working out dimensions and tolerances etc.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

5 GCSE’s, level C /4 or above,  BTEC level 3 would be advantageous .

Entry requirements as per NVQ framework.

FUTURE PROSPECTS

If successful in obtaining the NVQ level 4 and displaying behaviours and a positive attitude needed to succeed in NIS , then employment would be as a developing manufacturing engineer within one of the Project Portfolio teams.

Further study will be considered dependant on future career pathway.
