36 www.preston.ac.uk Annmarie has been a qualified pharmacy technician for over 30 years, an ACT for 15 years, and has worked in various sectors of pharmacy, initially in management, before becoming a dispensary manager at the Christie Hospital, where she still works part-time as a Training and Education Technician. Throughout her career, Annmarie has developed a passion for teaching and encouraging individuals to learn and develop their own knowledge and skills within the workplace and has worked at Preston College as a tutor since 2021. As Course Leader, Annmarie encourages interactive group discussions and learners to exchange ideas and knowledge freely within the class. This accredited course, which is suitable for registered Level 3 pharmacy technicians with at least 6 months experience, covers 6 core units: regulation and governance in dispensing accuracy checking, quality assurance of prescriptions and products in pharmacy, checking and interpreting prescriptions, error detection, reporting and analysis in the dispensing process, developing reflective practice, and transferrable skills in a pharmacy setting, as well as enhancing writing and referencing skills. Upon completion of this course, learners will be a fully accredited and qualified Accuracy Checking Technician. Equivalent to the first year of a degree, any points gained can be used in future UCAS applications, which further enhances career progression opportunities. With Preston College currently being the only college to offer this qualification, learners not only cover a wide range of topics, but may also get the opportunity to work on topics they would not usually get the chance to.
