We usually consider an A-Level in General Studies as a supplementary qualification. Contextual admissions will be applied to recruit students to the programme who do not meet the standard entry criteria. This will be subject to interview with a course tutor to discuss individual circumstances. WHAT WILL I LEARN? This HNC will enable you to learn a wide range of skills with four modules studied in total, each worth 30 credits. The modules studied are: Year 1: > Engineering Analysis > Engineering Design Year 2: > Engineering Science > Engineering Applications PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES: The qualification enhances promotion prospects in supervisory, junior and middle management roles, however, many graduates are supported by their employer to progress on to higher level qualifications, including the HND Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering here at Preston College. To progress, an additional application needs to be made. HOWWILL I BE TAUGHT? Knowledge acquisition occurs initially through tutor-led lectures and directed study of textbooks and journal articles. This is complemented by student led learning activity using text, media and active enquiry research methods. During your time on the HNC, you can typically expect to be taught via a combination of teaching styles, incorporating lectures, practical sessions and seminars. HOWWILL I BE ASSESSED? Assessment methods vary from module to module with assessment of knowledge typically being through exams, using unseen papers. Assessment of understanding is typically done through the completing of assignments or other similar coursework activities.
