For further information about the range of construction apprenticeships we offer or to speak to one of our advisors about hiring an apprentice, please email employerenquiry@preston.ac.uk or call 01772 225768. Zac Hill Wain Homes Chris Lafferty, Construction Director at Wain Homes says: “We recruit six apprentices and joiners with Preston College every year. We make sure that collaboratively, the apprentices learn new skills within their trade and they gain as much real life work experience on a construction site. They are led by a team of industry experts and each have a mentor that supports them and guides them through their learning. Knowing that the apprentices come to the College one day a week to learn the technical skills enriches their apprenticeship journey. The partnership works well and our apprentices are thriving.” Zac says: “I’m thrilled to be an apprentice and honoured to have been given the opportunity to work with Wain Homes. I am able to move between sites if I’m needed elsewhere and the team here are great to work with. I feel like I’m learning so much and looking forward to progressing in my career with Wain Homes once I’m qualified.” Robbie Parker Persimmon Homes Kevin Farrington, Managing Director for Persimmon Homes Lancashire says: “With the need for new housing well documented, we know how important it is to support construction students and help develop a diverse, talented workforce for the years ahead. “We are particularly proud of our links to local colleges and helping young people across the region to develop the skills they need to pursue one of the many exciting careers that housebuilding has to offer. “Attracting young people from all backgrounds is absolutely vital to make up for those retiring from the industry. That is why we continue to build upon the 650 apprentices and trainees we currently have across the group and launched our Target 50 initiative, to take on another 50 female apprentices and technical trainees in construction facing roles this year.” Robbie Parker, Level 2 bricklayer apprentice says: “I am grateful to be an apprentice bricklayer with one of the UK’s leading 5 star house-builders, Persimmon Homes. I am enjoying learning the skills which will see me complete my qualifications. This will help me future proof my salary and continue to work for Persimmon Homes or become self-employed.” 25
