EMPLOYER SPOTLIGHT: ENHANCE BEAUTY BAR Opening the salon just three and a half years ago, Frankie Hannan, Salon Owner and now 25, speaks humbly about how the business started and how the success of the salon now sees her with a full team of eight and plans to expand the business this year. “After I left college I had no idea what do to next. My friends all went to university and I had no clue as to what career I wanted to pursue. So I found myself a full time job as a receptionist in a Spa Hotel, not realising it would ultimately lead me to where I am today. “However, by working in the spa and being around the beauty therapists, it unlocked a passion for beauty therapy. So I started an apprenticeship as an NVQ Level 3 Beauty Therapist and soon after began working mobile. I quickly built up a reputable client base and it was then I decided to go self-employed within a salon.” However, Frankie had ideas and her creative passion and inspiration made her realise she wanted to go it alone and open her very own salon. “I opened Enhance Beauty Bar just over three years ago, with no expectations on how successful it would be. My goal wasn’t to ever build an empire, but to create an environment that myself and my clients loved to be in. But, as my client base grew, my team had to expand and I soon found I loved having the opportunity to be able to provide a fun, modern working space for people.” Situated on the main high street of Kirkham, Enhance is a stunning, sleek beauty salon set over three floors. The nail and pedicure bars are situated on the ground floor, high-spec treatment rooms and tanning rooms are on the second floor and a bespoke make-up room on the third floor. But Frankie has plans to extend this year: “We’ve been overwhelmed by how busy we have become, that I have put plans in place to expand the business which is really exciting for myself and the team.” Frankie speaks passionately about her team, particularly employing her apprentices. Her first apprentice, Emily, joined Frankie a few months after opening and just over 18 months ago in September 2018, became Salon Manager. “From having my own personal experience as an apprentice and being able to learn on the job, I always knew I wanted to take on an apprentice myself. “Emily had such enthusiasm for learning and a real passion in her work which created a fantastic morale in the salon. Emily has been a real asset to the team and her professionalism and work ethic, plus her relationships with the clients have made her a remarkable Salon Manager.” “Since then I have employed four other apprentices within the business. I love mentoring and developing other budding beauty students. I know how hard salon and beauty jobs can be to come across so I’m so pleased I am able to give learners an opportunity to work and learn. If no one had taken that chance on me then I wouldn’t be where I am today and it’s an honour to be able to give that opportunity to someone else.” And 2020 will be a good year for Enhance; with expansion plans, staff recruitment and more treatments being planned, Enhance Beauty Bar is really setting the bar! 14
