The Most - Issue 1

WHAT ARE THE EXPECTATIONS FOR YOUR STUDENTS? T-Levels have been designed with a minimum requirement for learners to attend a workplace, external from college premises, for a minimum duration of 315 hours which is equivalent to around 45 days based on a 7 hour working day. These days are organised around their full time college commitments and consist of either pre-organised block weeks or one or two day release from college or a variation of both of these. Students are expected to be able to provide a CV, attend an interview and discuss their aspirations with an employer. We encourage students to source their own placements as part of their learning process however, we also understand some employers would prefer to work directly with the college. We will cater to your preferred requirements and can direct students accordingly. WHAT WOULD MY BUSINESS NEED? You probably already do everything we would ask and it might require a short visit to you to confirm your participation in providing a T-Level experience. EMPLOYERS’ RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: > Provide an up-to-date Employer Liability Insurance Certificate > Meet our due diligence risk assessment requirements > A safe work environment > Opportunities for the student to develop their technical skills within your industry > A line manager to support, supervise and mentor the student > An induction which includes explaining relevant policies and procedures > At the end of the placement, formal feedback on the student’s progress against the agreed learning objectives HOWDO I GET INVOLVED? If you already work with Preston’s College in a capacity and you are interested in supporting our learners, please feel free to speak to your contact who will direct you to the Industry Placement Team. Otherwise you can e-mail workexperience@preston.ac.uk or call 01772 225078 to discuss the requirements and the process. Alternatively we can arrange to meet you and talk you through T-Levels and Industry Placements. 13
