HNC CONSTRUCTION AND THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT (CIVIL ENGINEERING) Awarded by Pearson THIS HNC: If you are currently employed in the construction industry and want to further your career in civil engineering, then this course will help prepare you for a range of higher roles. The programme is designed with flexibility at its core, making it easy to fit around your current employment and can be tailored to your existing role or career aspirations with a range of flexible modules. Developed and delivered with industry partners Eric Wright Civil Engineering and Lancashire County Council Highways division, this programme ensures you graduate with the higher level skills employers seek. Civil and structural engineers work on all types of buildings, plus transport and communication infrastructures including bridges, roads, tunnels, railways and other large constructions. They also work in the production, storage and distribution of electricity, gas and water. As a result, opportunities could be available with a variety of employers both in the UK and overseas. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Preston College operates a flexible admissions policy, welcoming applicants with a wide range of qualifications and/or experience, with each application assessed on its own merit. We also recognise prior learning/attainment (RPL) and experience, meaning it may be possible to map some of your existing qualifications against the modules for the HNC Civil Engineering qualification. If this applies to you, we will discuss this with you at the interview stage. For students who have recently been in education, we would expect an applicant to have one of the following: A-Levels: Two A-Level subjects or equivalent (grade B and grade C minimum) BTEC Extended Diploma: Pass or Merit (grade MMP) BTEC Diploma: BTEC National Diploma/Certificate (grade DM) Pass Access Course: In a relevant occupational area (at Level 3) International Baccalaureate: H7 PLUS GCSE: English and Maths GCSE grade 4 (formerly grade C) or equivalent Other qualification/ requirements: 3-4 years of site/industrial experience is desirable IELTS 6.0 (5.5 in each skills area) 75% of learners felt their study prepared them for the next steps in their career or education. 18
