HND MECHANICAL AND MANUFACTURING ENGINEERING Awarded by University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) THIS HND: This HND aims to provide you with the skills needed to solve significant and unpredictable engineering problems in a host of industries. Building upon the knowledge gained at HNC level, the programme allows you to explore the skills needed to design, analyse and optimise mechanical systems to a higher level. You will study five modules as part of your programme, investigating a range of subjects including design and manufacture, thermofluids, mechanics, kinematics and materials. Taught within our state-of the-art iSTEM Centre, offering outstanding teaching facilities, design suites, CAD/CAM software and a 3D printing lab, the programme has been designed with employers in mind, with successful completion providing opportunities to progress onto level 6 of the BEng (Hons) at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Preston College operates a flexible admissions policy, welcoming applicants with a wide range of qualifications and/or experience, with each application assessed on its own merit. We also recognise prior learning/attainment (RPL) and experience, meaning it may be possible to map some of your existing qualifications against the modules for the HND Mechanical and Manufacturing qualification. If this applies to you, we will discuss this with you at the interview stage. For students who have recently been in education, we would expect an applicant to have one of the following: Level 4 qualification: A Level 4 qualification in a relevant subject, such as HNC Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering The HNC shown in this guide allows for direct progression onto this HND. Applicants with an alternate HNC may be considered, depending upon modules completed Other qualifications or requirements: An NVQ diploma or equivalent competence based qualification Applicants with industrial experience will be considered on a case by case basis IELTS 6.0 (5.5 in each skills area) PLUS GCSE: English and Maths GCSE grade 4 (formerly grade C) or equivalent 48
