HYBRID VEHICLE & ELECTRICAL VEHICLE MAINTENANCE, REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT - LEVEL 3

Duration: 3 days
Level: Level 3

This dual Level 2 and Level 3 course is designed for you, if you are currently employed in the Automotive Sector and you’re looking to future-proof your skills, as the industry continues to shift toward cleaner, more sustainable technologies.

With the growing trend toward electric and hybrid vehicles, this programme provides the enhanced training needed to develop your existing skills while extending your capabilities to confidently work with electric/hybrid vehicles.

You will explore modern electric/hybrid vehicle technologies, along with the essential safety requirements for carrying out diagnostic, testing and repair activities.

The qualification is accredited by IMI, and upon completion you will have acquired core knowledge and practical skills required to safely remove and replace high-voltage components in electric and hybrid vehicles.

Delivery: On campus

Dates 16/02/2026 – 18/02/2026

Days: Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday

Times: 9am to 4pm

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

As part of the qualification, you will undertake two mandatory units:

Unit 1: Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Routine Maintenance Activities

  • Components of electric/hybrid propulsion systems
  • Ancillary components
  • Battery modules
  • Electric motors and the function of associated electrical components
  • Voltages used for motor vehicle high energy systems
  • Hazards associated with high energy electrical systems
  • Safety precautions when carrying out maintenance and repair on high voltage vehicles
  • Deactivating high energy vehicle systems prior to repair and reinstating vehicles
  • Removing and replacing high energy components
  • Diagnostic code reading equipment and specialist equipment

Unit 2: Electric/Hybrid Vehicle System Repair and Replacement

  • Removing and replacing vehicle drive systems components
  • Isolating and disconnecting low and high energy components
  • Re-setting vehicle systems post-repair and clearing fault codes
  • Inspection and test results

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

The College provides simulated work areas and specialist equipment for demonstrations, practical training and assessment, ensuring a realistic working environment. These facilities include an Electric Vehicle Training Rig and a Hybrid Vehicle.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

To pass and achieve the qualification you must achieve all unit learning outcomes.

You will be assessed via:

Unit 1: Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Routine Maintenance Activities

  • On-line multiple-choice test undertaken in exam conditions (60 minutes duration, 30 questions) - Pass mark required 60%)
  • Perform practical assessments in simulated conditions

Unit 2: Electric/Hybrid Vehicle System Repair and Replacement

  • Complete a knowledge assessment and you will perform practical assessments.

Practical assessments will include:

  • Procedures to isolate and re-instate high energy electrical system
  • Connecting an alternative power source to an electric/hybrid vehicle
  • Isolating, carrying out safety checks and disconnecting high energy system component
  • Removal and testing of high energy system component
  • Re-fit and reinstate component, carry out safety checks and re-set vehicle post-repair

HOW MUCH WILL THIS COURSE COST?

Cost: £525*

*Full funding may be available as part of UKSPF Green Skills Project to cover the cost of this course depending on your eligibility criteria. This will be discussed with an Advisor upon submission of your application.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?

Upon completion and achievement of the course you will gain a dual Level 2 and Level 3 qualification in:

  • IMI Level 2 Award -Technical Specialist in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Routine Maintenance Activities
  • IMI Level 3 Award - Technical Specialist in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle System Repair and Replacement

This course will provide the knowledge and skills needed to work safely on non-live, high-energy electrical components and systems. The qualification does not permit students to dismantle live components and assumes a solid existing understanding of electrical principles.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

In order to enrol on to this course you are required to possess appropriate vehicle maintenance and repair knowledge and skills. Therefore, you are required to be employed in the industry and must be able to provide sufficient evidence of a Level 3 Automotive qualification.

Applications can be considered If you are not currently employed in the sector, but have prior experience in this line of work, and have achieved your Level 3 qualification within the last five years. You will also be required to undertake a discussion with a course tutor to determine existing knowledge and skills.
