This qualification is designed for those already employed in the construction industry as a Site Carpenter, who wants to gain formal recognition of their skills, knowledge and competence against National Occupational Standards.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
You’ll complete a blend of mandatory and optional units to develop your practical skills and underpinning knowledge, including:
Mandatory Units:
Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace
Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace
Moving, Handling and Storing Resources in the Workplace
Optional Units (examples):
Erecting Structural Carcassing Components
Installing Fire Resisting Timber Door Assemblies and Doorsets
Installing First Fixing Components
Installing Second Fixing Components
Maintaining Non-Structural Carpentry Work
Using Transportable Cutting and Shaping Machines
You will achieve this qualification by demonstrating your competence on site and gathering a portfolio of work-based evidence.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
Assessment is through a mix of on-site observations by a qualified assessor, witness testimonies, photographs, professional discussions, and a portfolio of evidence. There are no exams — it’s all about demonstrating the skills you use at work every day.
HOW MUCH WILL THIS COURSE COST?
If you’re aged 24+, you don’t already hold a full Level 2 qualification and you're currently employed in the construction sector, you may be eligible for funding. Please speak to our Adult Recruitment team / Employer Engagement Team for advice.
WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?
Achieving this NVQ proves you meet industry standards for working safely and competently as a Site Carpenter. It can help you gain a CSCS Skilled Worker card and help you progress towards more senior roles, specialist qualifications, or a Level 3 NVQ in Wood Occupations.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
You must already be working in a relevant site carpentry role, with employer support for on-site assessment.
